Firefox, Safari eating into Internet Explorer market share

Recent Web Browser usage statistics suggest that Microsoft is loosing big time in times to come due to onslaught from Mozilla Firefox and Apple's Safari browser. Recent numbers suggest that from more than 91% in 2004 to around 65% in 2009 Q2, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is struggling to keep pace with the onslaught of Mozilla’s Firefox with the latter moving swiftly from around 4% to 23% in the same period.

Microsoft to launch a new search engine

Microsoft is expected to demonstrate its new search engine at the Wall Street Journal's D: All Things Digital conference in Calif. The new search engine is 'currently' named Kumo.

YouTube Gets a WideScreen

YouTube.com YouTube has expanded the width of the page to 960 pixels to better reflect the quality of the videos being created and the screens that  are being used to watch them. The new, wider player is in a widescreen aspect ratio which will provide with a cleaner, more powerful viewing experience.

Sun Microsystems to Distribute Microsoft Live Search-Powered Toolbar as Part of Java Runtime Environment

On Monday, at PDC 2008 Microsoft announced it’s new Cloud OS named Windows Azure. Windows Azure provides a highly scalable virtualization fabric for server-side application execution, deployment, automatic management, and simple storage. Windows Azure provides the base infrastructure for services in the cloud.
The Windows Azure SDK provides developers with the tools and APIs needed to develop, deploy, and manage scalable services in Windows Azure.

Acknowledging the high-end enterprise search capabilities of FAST

The 1.2 billion dollar purchase of "FAST Search and Transfer ASA" will form a strategic base for Microsoft in the enterpsire search domain.

Fast offers Microsoft high-end enterprise search technology, complementing Microsoft's existing enterprise search tools aimed at the lower end of the market, including its Search Server products. Microsoft has said that it plans to integrate Fast's technology with SharePoint, the enterprise collaboration software product.

 

ASP.NET MVC Beta Released

The ASP.NET MVC Beta release provides a new Model-View-Controller (MVC) framework that facilitates developers in taking take advantage of the MVC design patterns to create their Web Applications. Applications that include the ability to achieve and maintain a clear separation of concerns (the UI or view from the business and application logic and backend data), as well as facilitate test driven development (TDD). This MVC framework defines a specific pattern to the Web Application folder structure and provides a controller base-class to handle and process requests for “actions”. This release comes with an explicit "go-live" license that allows you to deploy it in production environments.

Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 released

Yet another leap towards virtualization. Microsoft Corp.’s CEO Steve Ballmer announced the final release and availability of Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 in front of a crowd of 700 IT professionals during a TechNet Server and Tools event keynote address in London.

Microsoft Hyper-V Server is a stand-alone hypervisor-based server virtualization product that allows customers to virtualize multiple operating systems onto a single physical server.
